Hit-and-run driver nearly hits Nye County deputy

PAHRUMP, NV (KSNV) — A Nye County Sheriff's Office deputy was inches away from being struck by a hit-and-run driver Monday night in Pahrump.

NCSO said it happened during a traffic stop around 10:00 p.m. near Charleston Park and Woodchips Road.

Caught on the deputy's body camera, during the stop, a red Chevrolet SUV passed the sheriff's marked patrol car striking the open side driver’s door without stopping.

Nye County Sheriff Lieutenant Adam Tippetts tells News 3 the accident was given to Nevada Highway Patrol to investigate.

Tuesday morning, Nye County deputies located the suspect vehicle on Donner Street in Pahrump and alerted NHP.

NHP said the suspect, a 56-year-old woman from Pahrump, admitted to driving the red Chevrolet that hit the deputies marked patrol car.

NHP tells News 3 the trooper gave her a hit and run citation. A standard procedure for misdemeanor hit and run.

"On the surface, it doesn’t seem appropriate, but I trust them to have conducted a thorough investigation and made the right determination,” Tippetts said.
