Report: Man accused of causing deadly bus stop crash had drugs in his system

LAS VEGAS - An arrest report released Wednesday says the driver in a deadly bus stop crash was under the influence of drugs.

Metro Police said the suspect Victor Manuel Castro-Solano told officers that he hit the pedestrians after he popped the clutch and lost control as he turned from Sahara eastbound to onto the northbound lanes of Nellis Boulevard.  

However, witnesses told police Castro-Solano’s Nissan Z sped through a turn, lost control and crashed into the bus stop where the pedestrians were sitting. Metro said Castro-Solano submitted to a field sobriety test, which he failed.

Three people who were sitting on the bench at the bus stop were injured. They were all taken to the hospital where one of the victims passed away.

Castro-Solano faces the following charges:

  • 1 count of felony DUI resulting in death
  • 2 counts of felony DUI resulting in substantial bodily harm
  • Failure to properly maintain travel lane or improper lane change
