Hidden Valley is a neighborhood in Reno, Nevada, founded in 1956 when four businessmen—Link Piazzo, Del Machabee, William Kottinger Sr., and Emmett Saviers—began meeting each weekend for a cup of coffee. Over coffee and in between swapping World War II war stories, they discussed their dream of creating a community that could develop quickly.
They purchased land in Reno, a city they called the “Biggest Little City in the World.” The businessmen bought a plot of land from Birbeck Ranch—for $100—that included over 900 acres.
On this land, the men took their time to build a golf course with a private country club in Hidden Valley—called the Hidden Valley Country Club. This community continued to expand until it held over 13,000 private homes, becoming its own self-contained little piece of heaven in the Nevada desert.
