Two juveniles killed in crash near Maryland, Flamingo

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating after two juveniles were hit and killed by a vehicle in the east valley Monday night.

According to officers, the crash occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Maryland Parkway near Katie Avenue, just north of Flamingo Avenue.

In a statement released Tuesday morning, LVMPD said investigators learned the two girls were crossing Katie in a crosswalk.

A 2012 Mercedes-Benz was heading south on Maryland when the driver lost control, police say. The car went off the road and hit a traffic sign, then continued going south and hit the two girls.

The Mercedes-Benz continued south, hitting a tree and traffic signal pole, before coming to a stop next to a McDonald's drive-thru lane.

Two cars in the drive-thru lane were hit by the falling tree as well, according to police.

One of the girls who was hit was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was taken to Sunrise Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, identified as 38-year-old Ebone Whitaker, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Police say she showed signs of impairment and has been arrested on suspicion of DUI resulting in death.
