5 people killed in crashes in the valley over the weekend

LAS VEGAS - 2019 is off to a deadly start on our valley roads. Over the weekend 5 people were killed in traffic related accidents.

The most recent happened around 6pm Sunday night, a bicyclist was hit and killed by a garbage truck near Desert Inn and Paradise.

A few hours earlier, a woman was killed and a 9 year old child seriously hurt in a crash near Lake Mead and Lamb. In this case, investigators believe one driver didn't yield to another car that had the right of way.

Just before midnight last night, a woman was killed on the 215 near Sahara. Nevada Highway Patrol says she crashed into a parked car on the shoulder of the road and was not wearing a seatbelt.

Just a few hours earlier on Saturday, a motorcyclist died and an off duty metro officer was hurt in a crash at an intersection in the Southwest valley.

Another crash involving a Motorcycle took the life of a bicyclist early Saturday morning near Sahara and Fremont.

With deadly crashes on Nevada roads hitting a 10-year high last year, it's a rough start for 2019. 8 News Now reporter Darlene Melendez has more on what law enforcement want you to remember before getting behind the wheel.
