Overview of the Most Dangerous Roads/Intersections in Las Vegas, NV

Roads and intersections have become hot spots for traffic accidents for many reasons. Unsafe pedestrian crossings are a major contributor to pedestrian accidents. A lack of bike lanes can bring cyclists too close to road traffic. And poor road design can create confusing intersections for motorists.

But these explanations only account for a fraction of Las Vegas road or intersection collisions. Driver behaviors historically cause nearly 95% of traffic accidents. This means most of the dangerous road and intersection conditions in Las Vegas result from high speeds and heavy traffic.

Some of the roads and intersections with the highest concentration of accidents include:

Tropicana Avenue and Koval Lane

This intersection sits on one of the busiest roads in Las Vegas. Tropicana provides a major east-west route through the city and serves several large casinos on the Strip. It also carries traffic between the Strip and Las Vegas International Airport.

Several apartment buildings sit on Koval. It also runs behind casinos on the Strip and provides employees a back entrance into the employee parking structures. As a result, the intersections between Koval and many of the major roads see a lot of traffic.

Between 2015 and 2017, the NDOT crash map shows four fatal accidents and dozens of injury accidents at Koval and Tropicana.

Flamingo Road and Decatur Boulevard

Grocery stores, popular restaurants, and gas stations sit at this intersection. It is located two blocks west of the Palms Casino.

According to the NDOT crash map, five fatal accidents and over 60 injury accidents have happened at this intersection since 2015.

Flamingo Road Between Paradise Road and Eastern Avenue

Although this section of road is frequently jam-packed, the wide lanes encourage drivers to exceed the already-high speed limit of 45 miles per hour.

Between 2015 and 2017, the NDOT crash map reports about 370 injury accidents and nine fatal accidents on this stretch of road.

Maryland Parkway Between Sahara Avenue and Tropicana Avenue

Maryland Parkway runs through residential and commercial areas. The Boulevard Mall and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, sit on this parkway, making it heavily congested.

This section of Maryland Parkway had two fatal accidents and over 350 injury accidents between 2015 and 2017, according to the NDOT crash map.

US-95

US-95 is always busy. A fast speed limit contributes to many of the highway’s accidents. And during rush hour, traffic bogs down at the interchange with I-15, also known as the Spaghetti Bowl. Between 2015 and 2017, the Spaghetti Bowl had one fatal accident and 370 injury accidents.
