LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — On Tuesday , the Nevada Assembly passed a bill abolishing the death penalty here in Nevada.

The bill passed along party lines with a Democratic majority and now moves to the Senate for consideration.

It is not clear whether the bill will pass in the Senate, or even be voted on, as it faces opposition from Prosecutors and some leaders in the Senate.

But the passage in the Assembly represents the first time a bill calling for its abolishment passed since the death penalty was reinstated in 1973.
