Henderson officer ejected from vehicle during crash caused by suspected drunk driver

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Police are responding after an officer was hit in a crash Tuesday morning around 9:00 a.m. in Henderson.

Two crashes were reported in the area of Sunset Road and Green Valley Parkway.

One crash led to another crash, in which the officer was struck, Henderson Police said via Twitter.

The officer was completing an accident report for on traffic collision in his patrol car when he was struck by a 2018 Hyundai who drove around a disabled vehicle from the previous crash.

The crash caused the officer to be ejected from his vehicle.

Investigation revealed the Hyundai driver, 27-year-old Joseph Allen Smith, exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested for DUI.

The officer was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
