Police: Driver arrested for DUI in west Las Vegas crash that killed 18-year-old

A 19-year-old man has been arrested for DUI after a deadly crash reported early Wednesday morning in the west Las Vegas valley.

Officers responded around 12:45 a.m. to the intersection of Preakness Pass and Churchill Downs Road, near Fort Apache and Charleston, according to Lt. William Matchko with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

It was a two-vehicle collision, Matchko said. One driver was taken to a hospital, while the other was detained on suspicion of impairment.

In a statement released later in the morning, LVMPD said evidence indicates a 2018 Lincoln MKX was heading west on Preakness at a high rate of speed.

A 2016 Ford Fusion made a left turn from Churchill onto Preakness, and the Lincoln hit the Ford's driver side.

The driver of the Ford, identified as an 18-year-old man, was taken to UMC where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Lincoln, identified as 19-year-old Alexander Brewer, was taken to UMC with minor injuries and later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Jail records indicated Brewer was booked into Clark County Detention Center.
