Motorcyclist dies after crash in south Las Vegas valley

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A motorcyclist has died after a crash early Friday morning in the south valley, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

Officers got a report of a crash around 12:45 a.m. in the area of Cactus Avenue and Verona Wood Street, between Rainbow and Jones boulevards, said Lt. Adrian Beas.

They learned a motorcycle collided with a sedan, and the motorcycle rider was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

In a statement, LVMPD said the investigation indicates a 2017 Acura TLX was heading west on Cactus, with a 2016 Yamaha R6 motorcycle traveling behind it.

The Yamaha accelerated and hit the back of the Acura, and the collision threw the rider from the bike, according to police.

The rider, identified as a 20-year-old Las Vegas man, was taken to UMC Trauma, where he was pronounced dead a short time after he arrived.

Investigators say the driver of the Acura stayed at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment.

The crash remains under investigation.
