Man killed in northwest valley crash, driver arrested for leaving scene

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating an apparent auto-pedestrian crash Monday night just east of Craig Road and Rainbow Boulevard.

According to Lt. David Gordon, the crash occurred around 8:15 p.m. An adult pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced deceased.

In a statement released Tuesday morning, LVMPD said investigators believe a blue 2000 Chevrolet Blazer was heading east on Craig approaching Jadestone Avenue when it struck a man crossing the street.

The driver of Chevrolet left the scene without stopping to provide any help, according to LVMPD, and a passerby reported the incident to police.

The person hit by the car, identified as a 51-year-old man, was taken to UMC where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the driver of the Chevrolet, identified as Oscar Rios Ley, returned to the scene of the crash. He was booked on suspicion of failure to render aid.
