Pedestrian killed in crash on Las Vegas Strip was on cell phone, ignored 'Don't Walk' sign

Officers say a 23-year-old pedestrian from Baltimore, Maryland was on their cell phone and crossing the street despite having a "Don't Walk" signal when he was hit and killed by a vehicle at 5:52 a.m.

The incident occurred at the intersection of E. Sahara Avenue and S. Las Vegas Boulevard. The police investigation revealed a 2017 Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on E. Sahara Avenue at S. Las Vegas Boulevard, while a pedestrian was crossing E. Sahara Avenue within a marked crosswalk on the east side of the intersection.

The front of the Honda struck the pedestrian forcing him to the roadway. Witnesses stated that the traffic signal turned yellow as the Honda traveled through the intersection and the pedestrian was crossing despite having a "Don't Walk" signal.

The pedestrian was determined to be deceased at the scene by medical personnel. The driver of the Honda, 22-year-old David Deluna, remained at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment.
