1 Dead After Shooting at North Las Vegas Apartment Complex

Review Journal, Las Vegas, reports that one person was killed and another was injured in a shooting in North Las Vegas on Tuesday. The shooting happened about 8:45 p.m. at an apartment complex at 1200 W. Cheyenne Ave., near Martin Luther King Boulevard, North Las Vegas police spokeswoman Ann Cavaricci said. One man was found dead inside an apartment at Loma Vista Apartments, Cavaricci said.

A 19-year-old man who had been shot walked into Valley Hospital Medical Center shortly after police arrived at the complex. He was being treated there for a gunshot to an extremity. Cavaricci said both victims were shot at the complex, although the two’s relationship wasn’t clear. As of Tuesday night, it was unclear what happened in the moments leading up to the shooting or how many shots were fired. Cavaricci said no suspects were in custody.

First and foremost, our condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim in this tragedy.

Many people do not know that property owners may be held responsible for the criminal acts of others if those criminal acts were “foreseeable” and the owner failed to take reasonable steps to prevent such acts. Whether criminal acts were foreseeable may be proven by showing that the property provided a “fertile environment for criminal conduct.” At Battle Born we have successfully resolved multiple shooting cases occurring on private property, such as apartment complexes. Please contact our office if you or a loved one have been injured due to criminal acts on private property.
