Posts being installed on Las Vegas Strip to protect pedestrians

After the recent vehicular attack in New York City, Las Vegas construction crews started installing the steel posts Monday, along Las Vegas Boulevard.

According to county officials, after some test crashes, they have found the posts are strong enough to stop a flatbed truck traveling 55 mph. That's roughly the size of a tow truck.

Crews hope to be finished with this first phase of posts by New Years Eve.

The work to install bollards, or steel posts, designed to protect sidewalk pedestrians on the Las Vegas Strip, began early Tuesday morning.

Initial work includes crews locating underground utilities.

The posts will work to keep cars off the sidewalk and out of crowds.

In 2015, Lakeisha Holloway drove off Las Vegas Boulevard and into dozens of people, killing one, outside Planet Hollywood.
